Epic Games is expanding parental controls for the online game “Fortnite”: Parents can now set how much time their kids can spend on “Fortnite” each day. You can also set the time window in the settings in which play is allowed.

New control features can be activated Epic Games account settings under “Parental Controls”If everything is set up correctly, kids will see a notification while playing when they only have 30 minutes left to play. It works not only in “Fortnite”, but also in related applications like “Lego Fortnite” and “Unreal editor for Fortnite” creations (UEFN).
Report reveals how long children play
Young children then have the opportunity to digitally ask their parents for more time to play. Restricting play time works across accounts and all devices – so if a child has already exceeded play time on a PC they can’t simply switch to their cell phone.
If desired, the new Epic tool shows how long kids have been playing “Fortnite” in the form of a bar chart.

Using the new feature, parents can not only set an upper limit but also be informed about how long their children are playing. Parents can optionally send them sports reports. Parents can see in a bar chart when and for how long their child played.
“Fortnite’s” time monitoring complements similar child safety features that the respective platforms already offer. Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch also offer features that can be used to control family members’ screen time. The advantage of the Epic function for parents is that they do not need to configure settings individually for each platform.
