New video features: Surprise calls on WhatsApp will soon be harmless too

WhatsApp is rolling out new features designed to make video calls more personal. Users can now change the background and apply filters during video calls. It can be used, for example, to keep an environment private or to beautify it. For example, you can then pretend that you are sitting in a café or in a clean living room.

Filter options included according to whatsapp “Warm, Cool, Black and White, Light Leak, Dreamy, Prism Light, Fish Eye, Vintage TV, Frosted Glass and Duo Tone”. Background options include “Blur, Living Room, Office, Cafe, Pebbles, Foodie, Smoosh, Beach, Sunset, Celebration, and Forest.”

Apart from filters and backgrounds, WhatsApp also offers “Refine” and “Low Light” options. These promise to naturally improve the appearance and brightness of the environment, making video calls more lively and entertaining.

To access these features during an individual or group video call, users need to select the effects icon in the top right corner of the screen. Then the selection of filters and backgrounds can be seen. According to WhatsApp, these effects will be available to all users in the coming weeks.

Meta recently released its “AI Studios” – a platform for various AI tools, initially available only in the USA. Other video tools were also introduced that can, for example, help influencers answer their fans’ questions using personalized chatbots. No programming knowledge required. Chatbots can also be used through Instagram, WhatsApp, and similar meta products.
