Self-employed IT specialists were able to earn good money for a long time. But in 2024 the competition becomes tough. Companies went the cost-cutting route, advertising fewer projects for freelancers and thus making it more difficult to acquire new clients. What will happen next in 2025?
Robin Golbach is optimistic about the future. “Many companies registered with us in 2024 used IT freelancers for the first time,” says the CEO of freelance.de in an interview. The online platform brings together freelancers and clients, and about half of the offerings revolve around IT projects. Despite the weak economy, “there are still companies that are undertaking large IT projects” and “they need the right experts.”
However, the situation is not easy. “It may sound silly, but as an IT specialist you now have to do more for your money and prove that you’re really worth your hourly rate,” says Golbach. We spoke to the CEO of freelance.de about the outlook for the freelance market and his wishes for the upcoming federal election.
