Power station Ecoflow Delta 3 Pro in the test

0

The EcoFlow Delta Pro 3 is a real powerhouse among power stations. With a 4096 Wh battery capacity, 4000 W of power and versatile connections, it masters practically any challenge. We tested them.

The EcoFlow Delta Pro 3 is a powerful power station that impresses with its modern design and huge battery capacity of 4096 Wh. Thanks to the expansion capacity of up to 12 kWh using an additional battery or smart generator, it is suitable for a wide range of uses – from camping to emergency power supply at home. With an output of 4000W (6000W with X-Boost), the Delta Pro 3 can easily power most home appliances. Is the high price currently rare 2400 euros (code powerbay3) is reasonable, our testing shows.

Design and equipment

The Ecoflow Delta Pro 3 impresses with its attractive and modern design. In addition to the high-quality feel and high workmanship, great attention was paid to visual details. Apart from the stylish grilles in front of the ventilation openings, the chrome-look side trim strips and the side sills at the bottom are attractive – both of them are reminiscent of a stylish and sporty car.

Despite its heavy weight of 51.5 kg, it can still be transported relatively easily thanks to the integrated telescopic handle and sturdy wheels. We don’t want to drag them over long, uneventful stretches, but short distances aren’t a big problem – unless there are stairs, in which case two people are fine.

There is certainly no shortage of connections: a total of four 230 V sockets are available, each providing up to 4000 W (peak power 6000 W). It also has two USB-C ports with 100W power each, perfect for quickly charging a notebook, tablet or smartphone. Additional devices can be charged at up to 12W via two USB-A ports. The 12V vehicle connection up to 120 watts is suitable for cool boxes, compressors and other camping equipment. Of course, the XT60 input for solar panels should not be missing. It can handle up to 1200 watts and enables fast charging using solar power – such a high solar output is rare even in the premium power station sector.

There is also a network connection and a port to connect to the EcoFlow PowerStream inverter (test report) or the EcoFlow Smart Generator emergency power generator (test report). However, the cable required for this must be purchased separately. Two additional interfaces for optionally available additional batteries are available to expand the already abundant capacity.

We find the retractable cover on the rear ports, which protects them from dirt and moisture, really practical. Apart from the mandatory charging socket, there is also a safety switch. The large display on the front provides information about all the important parameters such as charge status, remaining running time, output and input power. The Delta Pro 3 is easily controlled via clearly arranged buttons on the front or via the app. It also offers useful additional functions such as battery conservation or time control. It’s a shame that EcoFlow didn’t also add protective caps to the front connections.

practical test

In testing, the Delta Pro 3 impressed with its tremendous performance at tolerable volumes. It even provides energy to power-consuming appliances like appliances or kitchen machines. Our energy-hungry cross-cut saw with a starting current of more than 3600 watts for a short time also works without problems on the Delta 3 Pro. Low-power appliances, such as a fan heater, deep fryer or kettle, of course also work at the same time – up to a maximum total power of 6000 watts for a short time (5 minutes). If you want to use such high performance at low temperatures, when in doubt you will have to preheat the cooled power station battery for a period of time. Ecoflow advises consumers to use at least 500 watts for five minutes. In testing it worked fine and the warning message disappeared.

In testing, the Delta 3 Pro supplied our classic everyday consumer PC workstation with a notebook, printer, two additional monitors, telephone and speakers for more than 30 hours at a time – even with the power saving function deactivated. According to measurements, the usable efficiency is 96 percent with an output of more than 2000 watts. When using 500-watt consumers, about 95 percent can still be used. In our hands-on tests with mixed consumers, usable capacity hovered around a little less than 88 percent, which is still pretty good. This makes the Delta 3 Pro one of the most efficient power stations in over 60 individual tests – the actual usable capacity is usually only around 80 to 85 percent and in exceptional cases even significantly lower.

When recharging from a socket, the conversion loss is slightly higher. The efficiency in testing here is around 82 percent, which is at least average. The volume is pleasantly low considering the immense power. The power station is audible under load, but at 30 dB(A) it is not annoyingly loud, at least up to about 2000 watts. With higher power, the fans go overboard at some point and we measure up to 52 dB(A). However, in practice, this is less of a problem as connected consumers typically produce a lot of noise. To be able to measure the evolution of noise at high loads, we had to keep the consumers away and work with a long extension cable.

The quick charging function is impressive and extremely practical in practice: the huge battery is charged to 100 percent in just under an hour using the power adapter. Others are faster, but have lower onboarding capacity and take at least 90 minutes. And the Delta Pro 3 can also be charged quickly using solar panels – although, to achieve full performance, at least three 400-watt panels are required.

The integrated UPS function works perfectly in testing and ensures uninterrupted power supply for the router, server or 3D printer. In the event of a power outage, the Delta 3 Pro switches from passthrough to the internal battery in a flash and connected consumers simply continue to operate as if nothing happened.

Price, Variants and Price Assessment

starting with the price 2398 euros (code powerbay3), the EcoFlow Delta Pro 3 is not a cheap deal. In return, you get an extremely powerful and versatile device that can be expanded up to 12 kWh with an additional battery. There are certainly cheaper alternatives with less power – but if you buy the power of the Delta Pro 3 for its maximum performance and compatibility with petrol inverters and balcony power plants, you won’t find a better option at the moment.

conclusion

The Ecoflow Delta Pro 3 is an affordable and extremely stylish power pack for all those who need maximum performance and a big battery. Whether as a mobile power supplier when camping, as a power storage device for a workshop, as a backup in the event of a power outage or as a storage device for a balcony power plant – the Delta Pro 3 is up to the task with flying colors. Masteres a wide range. Colour.

The performance, workmanship and features are absolutely top notch. The only downside is the hefty price and heavy weight. If you can handle it, the Delta Pro 3 is one of the best power stations on the market.
