Waking up and falling asleep with the Nintendo alarm clock: The Japanese gaming company has introduced Alarmo, a bedside alarm clock that lets users wake up more or less gently with the sounds of 35 game scenarios. This could be music, but also grunts, screams and other sound effects from famous Nintendo games like “Super Mario.”

Using motion sensors, the alarm is supposed to register when the sleeping user finally feels comfortable getting up and then reward them with “the sound of coins jingling from ‘Super Mario Odyssey'”, as Nintendo described in a Told in the promotional video. The simplification of waking up is reminiscent of Nintendo’s “Pokemon Sleep” project.
When you finally get out of bed, it should be acknowledged with a victory chant and then the alarm clock should be silenced. Users do not need to turn off the alarms. However, if you lie down, the alarm clock fights the user’s continued sleep by making a louder sound.
5 games with 7 alarm variations each
The 35 game scenarios mentioned come from only five games at launch: “Super Mario Odyssey”, “Splatoon 3”, “Pikmin 4”, “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” and “Ring Fit Adventure”. There are seven “wake-up call variations” for each game. Further wake-up calls can be made via Wi-Fi connection after launch – Nintendo is promising “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” and “Animal Crossing New Horizons.”
With the Nintendo Alarm Clock you can not only wake up, but also fall asleep: “Snooze sounds” are played when you go to bed and are intended to lull you to sleep. On the alarm clock display, sleep or wake sounds are accompanied by video game animations. You can also view sleep statistics there – like how much you move while you sleep.
Alarmo costs 100 euros and will initially be offered exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online members: you should be able to order the alarm clock this week. Sales of the Alarmo will begin in January 2025.
