Photography is not a podcast
With us, photographers tell you what it’s really like: life with the camera at the ready. New every other Sunday.
This type of photo art works a little differently than other long exposures, for example traces of passing cars.

When doing light painting, the photographer uses various light sources such as flashlights, LEDs or even fire to actively paint in the shot. Over long exposure times, without seeing the result during the process, he creates various light paths in the darkness, including spectacular light sculptures. Resolution only occurs when you look at the finished image. That’s what makes this art so exciting.
Anyone who works at night and in black clothing, such as Olaf Schieche, attracts the attention of passers-by. Encounters with the police are therefore not uncommon for light painters. In addition to creativity, light painting also brings dangers – especially when fire is involved. For example, the use of red-hot steel wool can cause a fire. Precautionary measures and common sense are therefore the basis of every photo session.
In this episode, the photographer talks about how he plans his tasks, why fitness and good photos are connected and what he has experienced in his night-time working life.
