Pixel smartphone owners will soon be given the Android 15 update for download: Google will begin distributing the new Android version to Pixel devices, according to a statement on Tuesday evening. In the coming weeks, other manufacturers are also likely to follow suit and upgrade their cell phones to the new Android version.
Google published the source code for Android 15 in early September. Since then, the new version has been part of the Android open source project, allowing developers to view the code and adapt their apps for it.
Android 15 is a fairly minor update compared to previous Android versions, and it brings a number of changes. One of the most interesting new features is a digital data vault called “Private Space” for sensitive apps. Apps stored there can be secured with an additional PIN. This means that unauthorized people who have an unlocked cell phone in their hands still do not have access. Notifications of apps can also be hidden in private space.
Feature drop with anti-theft protection
Along with Android 15, Google is also bringing a new feature drop for its Pixel phones. From the user’s perspective, these functions more or less go hand in hand with Android updates, but are strictly separate from it. Owners of other non-Google Android smartphones won’t get these features.
New to Pixel cell phones is “Magic Audio Eraser,” which can remove annoying noises like wind and murmuring crowds from video recordings. Google also wants to improve underwater photography. There’s also a slider for the Photos app that allows you to use the astrophotography function.
Finally, Google has improved anti-piracy features. In the future, AI will use the motion sensor to detect when the cell phone is taken out of your hand and then immediately lock the screen.
