Amazon has updated its product line of e-book readers and is now selling the Kindle ColorSoft with a color display for the first time. The American company announced this on Wednesday. According to Amazon, colors will help with finding covers, improve the display of photos and images in e-books, and enable colored markings in texts. Along with the Kindle Scribe, Amazon is also introducing a reader that combines the functions of the Kindle with those of a digital notebook. There are also modified Kindle Paperwhites and devices for children.

E-readers with color displays have been around for some time. Unlike competition PocketBook and Tolina, Amazon did not have such a device available yet. While the colors displayed don’t even come close to the range and brightness you’d expect from a smartphone screen, color e-readers can score points with their renowned, long battery life. According to Amazon, the ColorSoft is also waterproof, meaning electronic books can be read in the bathtub and on the beach.
With the new Scribe, Amazon promises “a completely new writing experience in books.” The purpose of this device is to combine digital books with notebooks. According to Amazon, the display has a “paper-like texture” and a stylus. Both together should make it possible to write on paper. This means that annotations can be written directly on a book page, for example, and the text of the book flows around this addition. It should remain in place even if the font size, font style or layout changes.
Can be pre-ordered directly
In parallel with the presentation of the two new readers, Amazon is also announcing revised versions of existing devices. This will make the Kindle Paperwhite even faster, and the display will also be slightly larger. The children’s editions of the Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite have also been updated. The smallest Kindle is also available in a new color. The Kindle ColorSoft is priced at 290 euros and is to be delivered from October 30, the Kindle Scribe is to be delivered from December 4 for 420 euros. Other Kindles are now available for 110 to 200 euros.
