Redmi Pad Se 8.7 is one of the smallest tablets from Xiaomi. With a price of less than 100 euros, this is a deal. The test shows whether this is also good.
Redmi is known not only for cheap smartphones with a decent price-demonstration ratio, but also for inexpensive pills. The SE series is traditionally aimed at the purpose of price-conscious buyers-Nay Redmi Pad SE 8.7 is no exception.
With its 8.7-inch display, it is hardly larger than a paperback and thus the news or e-books-e-class is ideal for reading a classic sofa or travel tablet. In the following test reports, we clarify whether the mini model is also technically confident.
The test device was made available to us by Notebooks Billigger for six weeks. There the tablet is currently with 64 GB in the Wlan version 108 Euro Available.
design
The Redmi Pad SE 8.7 is in a classic tablet look with a pointed habitat. The frame is made of metal, but the back is only made of plastic. Thanks to the fine reflection, the device is still safe in hand – the risk of slipping. In addition, the surface is pleasant resistant to fingers scars.
A round camera with a simple lens sits on a module and an LED flash back functional, but certainly not a design statement. Processing and feeling is fine, the keys provide a clean pressure point.
With dimensions of 211.58 × 125.48 × 8.8 mm, the tablet is satisfactory compact and easily disappears in your handbags. Also it is possible with a weight of 373 grams for a long time with a hand – whether honest when reading or crossing for videos and games. Meditation in fluids: It is not waterproofing. Compared to the 11 -inch tablet, the SE provides around the third low screen area, but it provides significantly more than any smartphone.
Display
The 8.7-inch display with the IPS panel dissolves with 1340 × 800 pixels. Not a full HD, but with a specific tablet gap for 179 PPIs and the eye, it is rarely noticeable. If you look closely, you can see a personal pixel, but you have to go closer to healthy. For this, the panel scores a fresh rate of 90 Hz-a budget is definitely not the case for a tablet. Scrolling and wipes look much more liquid than many contestants in this price range.
With respect to the brightness, the small panel also surprises positively: we were able to measure up to 500 knots in the test – this is enough to use it on the balcony – until the sun pops up directly. The colors appear alive, the contradictions are properly coordinated-the demonstration video, news or e-books offer a all-round solid performance.
The current Widavin-L1 certificate allows streaming in full HD-principle. In practice, HD limits performance resolution, but at least it is just more than SD-one profit on equipment without L1.
Quarrel
You should not expect a miracle from a cheap tablet camera – and openly, no one does. While the lens is now almost more important than the processor in the smartphone, a “main thing, it is there” with a tablet. Redmi installs a simple 8-megapixel main camera and 5-megapixel front lens.
This is enough for topical snapshot, a quick picture of a document or video call with a family. However, the sharpness is expandable, the colors look slightly yellow, and the fine structures such as blurred. Even cheap smartphones provide better results here. After all, the video can be recorded with 30 FPS throughout the front and back with 30 FPS and the quality is also inactive.
equipment
In Redmi Pad SE 8.7, a MediaTek Helio G85 – an old acquaintance, but also an old processor. This is anything but hurry. With approximately 7800 points in PCMark, however, the performance is in the field what you can expect from a cheap entry-level tablet.
This is enough for media consumption, simple surfing and use of topical apps. However, if you expect quick reactions, you have to be patient: sometimes, the tablet takes a little break. Gaming? Only to a limited extent. The demand for 3D title overwhelms the device. Classics such as “solitary” or some round “Angry Birds” are no problem.
By default, the tablet 4 GB RAM brings an optional 64 or 128 GB as internal memory. There is also a pure Wlan version or even with a modem for mobile communication with LTE. Practical: There is a microSD slot for memory expansion.
Even GPS is on a board-in combination with a hotspot or LTE version, the tablet becomes a navigation option for the car. The rest of the device is simple, but expected: USB-C 2.0, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.3. Loudspeakers are fine-this is enough for a sharp YouTube video in the middle. Even there is a slot for jack with 3.5 mm for wired headphones. There is no fingerprint sensor.
software
Compact Redmi Tablet now runs with Hyper OS 2 based on Android 15. It was originally given with Android 14. The surface is more reminiscent of iOS than pure android: not an app drawer is active by the house, instead all the apps land directly on the home screen. As usual, Xiaomi also brings a good part of the blotware-shameless game, online stores and various devices.
At the end of April 2025, at the time of testing, the security update still came from February – not dramatically old, but not too fresh now. Xiaomi guarantees the software update for a total of three years from the market launch, which is expected by 2027. An update for Android 16 has been announced-but after that, the new Android version.
Battery
The Redmi Pad SE 8.7 Battery brings 6650 mAh – slightly higher than a specific smartphone. The endurance is satisfied strong: In PCmark battery test, the device came in a continuous operation-e-value of about 14 hours which otherwise reaches only a few tablets, in addition to special outdoor models. If you stream the video mainly, you can expect a period of up to 20 hours depending on the brightness of the display.
On the other hand, the loading is from leisurely: 20 to 100 percent passes about two hours. Quick charge is not here.
price
For the market launch last year, the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 still had 150 euros with 64 GB and 200 Euro with 128 GB. There is about 30 euros for LTE (4G). The price is now overshadowed. On Notebook Billigger.D you can get it with 64 GB in Wlan variants 108 EuroAnthracite, light blue and light green are available.
conclusion
Redmi pad se 8.7 from Xiaomi provides a strong price-demonstration ratio. Due to its easy size, it is ideal to go or as a second tool on the couch. It especially plays its strength when reading e-books, news or social media. For a long film evening, the compact display may be slightly shorter.
The tablet collects digits with its decent HD display, including 90 Hz refresh rates and excellent battery life. Manufactured -in processor is not a sprinter, but is usually sufficient for everyday tasks and media consumption. If you are looking for a cheap and all compact tablets for simple tasks, the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 is in the right place for you.
