Without any event: Apple introduces the new iPad mini with Apple Intelligence support

Apple issued a press release Tuesday afternoon The new generation of iPad mini Announced. Now the seventh series comes with an improved interior and gears the hardware for Apple’s AI system Apple Intelligence, which is scheduled to appear this month. The hardware can be pre-ordered now and will be officially available in stores next Wednesday, October 23rd.

Four colors, three storage sizes

The iPad mini 7 matches its predecessor, which hit the market in September 2021, with the front camera still located on the narrow part of the housing. It is a compact 8.3-inch tablet with a resolution of 2266 by 1488 pixels at 326 dpi with LED backlighting (IPS) without HDR and 120Hz support. The screen packs a maximum brightness of 500 nits. Instead of the A15 Bionic of the previous model, the A17 Pro is now installed. This comes from the 2023 iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, has 6 CPU cores (2 performance, 4 efficiency) and 5 GPU cores.

The AI unit (Neural Engine) has 16 cores. Apple has presumably installed 8 GB of RAM, which is required for Apple Intelligence – but no specifics are given. The iPad mini 7 supports the Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil with USB-C; Apple doesn’t provide any information about the Pencil 2, which still works on the iPad mini 6. When it comes to Wi-Fi, the iPad mini 7 only supports Wi-Fi 6E, not 7 like the new iPhone 16. A total of four colors are offered (space grey, blue, purple and polarstern) as well as three storage sizes.

Prices and variants

As always, Apple sells the iPad mini 7 in versions with WLAN and 5G. The rear camera is 12 megapixel (wide angle) and supports Smart HDR 4. The front camera is also 12 megapixels (ultra wide angle) and uses Apple’s Follow Mode. The WLAN variants are priced at 599, 729 and 979 euros in the list, the 5G tablets are priced at 769, 899 and 1149 euros (128, 256 and 512 GB respectively).

The manufacturer also offers free engraving; The Apple Pencil Pro is available for 149 euros and the Apple Pencil with USB-C for 89 euros. Finally, Apple also sells a SmartFolio case in matching colors for 69 euros each, and this time there is also no Magic Keyboard for the iPad mini 7.
