When new Macs and iPads arrive: Apple may kill these products

Apple currently has a lot to do with the Mac as well as other product lines. So when new devices come out in late October or early November, many older models will either be sold at lower prices or disappear from the range altogether. An overview of what Apple may be shutting down in a few weeks.

When it comes to Macs, large parts of the existing M3 models will soon become redundant when they are replaced by M4 machines. This applies to both desktop computers and mobile devices. The M3 is likely to say goodbye to the iMac presented at the end of October 2023. It will probably get the M4 (regular, i.e. without Pro and Max). The last Mac mini is still stuck with the M2 and M2 Pro and hit the market in January 2023. It will likely be replaced by a smaller M4 model – hopefully also an M4 Pro.

With the MacBook Pro, the end of the three M4 product lines is nearing: the M3 (14-inch), M3 Pro, and M3 Max (14 and 16-inch). Their date is also from October 2023. These are to be exchanged for the M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max variants. However, the MacBook Air M4 is not expected yet; It will most likely be released in spring 2025. MBA M3 was released in March 2024.

When it comes to the iPad, the Mini series in particular has become very dated. It was last completely redesigned in its sixth generation in September 2021 and is expected to arrive with a new interior in the form of the iPad mini 7 in late October/early November – and will replace the iPad mini 6. The standard iPad (currently: generation 10) may also be gone and replaced by the (slightly) better equipped iPad 11.

This would mean that Apple will surpass all iPads this year after not releasing a single new model in 2023. Finally, there’s still speculation about a new iPad Air, which would mean the end of the existing iPad Air M2 – although that’s also probably due in the spring. The final release date is May 2024. The iPad Pro isn’t expected to change until 2025, after all, as the professional tablet was the first Apple device to get the new M4 chip this year.
