After more than 10 years, Final Cut Pro is taking the next big leap in version with Final Cut Pro’s new magnetic selection tool “Magnetic Mask”, which aims to enable more flexible adjustment of certain objects in the video. Another AI feature automates the creation of subtitles in the timeline by transcribing the audio track. The Apple language model will be used for this, the company announced late Wednesday.

Additionally, Final Cut is now able to edit spatial video and perform color correction, as well as add effects and titles. Stereoscopic recordings can be output from different recording angles on a Mac and exported for playback on Vision Pro. In addition to the latest iPhones and Vision Pro, spatial videos will also soon be able to be created with the Canon EOS-R7 – the first lens for this will be available in stores soon. At the same time, Apple refers to the upcoming ultra-widescreen mode of virtual Mac displays in Vision Pro.

Apple has also added an iPad version of Final Cut: There, users can make AI-supported lighting and color correction and use the new pen tool with the Apple Pencil to insert animations. The Final Cut camera has also received an update and now supports HEVC video with log, as well as a new LUT preview (with Apple Log LUT). Recording 4K video at 120 fps is also supported on the iPhone 16 Pro.

The biggest innovation in Logic Pro is the reverb effect with the Quantec Room Simulator: The plug-in is based on the Quantec founder’s original circuit diagrams and algorithms, Apple announced.

Final Cut Pro 11 can still be installed on macOS 14, but tasks like transcribing require the newer macOS 15. The manufacturer notes that some features require a Mac with an Apple chip. Support for macOS 13 will end with the update.

Nothing changed in the business model: the Mac version is available as a one-time purchase for 350 euros, but the update to version 11 is free for existing customers. Apple continues to offer the iPad version as a subscription for less than 5 euros per month or 50 euros per year. Logic Pro for Mac still costs 230 euros, and the update is free here too. The iPad app is also available only as a subscription at the same prices as Final Cut.
