Google’s Gboard keyboard will soon be able to correct not just whole words, but entire sentences – one of many new functions that could be launched if developers prepare their apps for Android 15. The source code of the current Gboard beta provides reason for speculation.

With Gboard, Google offers its own on-screen keyboard for Android and iOS devices. With more than five billion downloads on the Google Play Store, it is one of the most popular apps for Android. One of the special features of Gboard is the possibility that autocorrect word suggestions are also based on Google searches.
Major Gboard update expected for Android 15
With the new Android version 15, which Google says it plans to deliver to Samsung, Pixel and other devices “in the coming weeks”, there will probably be a major update for Gboard as well. The Android Authority portal offers clues, who thoroughly examined the source code of the current Gboard beta And many exciting clues were found. Although the related potential innovations have not yet been decided, the available source code is a strong indication of it.
The most interesting new feature is a function that checks entire sentences for errors and automatically corrects them, rather than offering suitable words for full and automatic corrections for spelling and grammar while writing as before. Two lines in the beta code are decisive for this. They should give the user a choice: either correct only words or correct words and sentences automatically.

The whole thing is reminiscent of the proofreading function that Gboard introduced last year. If Gboard finds errors, a Fix the problem button will be displayed in the suggestion bar. It is still unclear whether the situation will be the same with the potential new function. The Gboard function of using the space bar to switch between keyboard layouts for different languages may also change. The beta source code indicates that the update to Android 15 will include a new, more practical button.
