Toyota and Nvidia have agreed to collaborate on controlling autonomous vehicles at CES 2025. The world’s largest automaker will deploy a new generation of automobiles with both chips and software from the leading AI accelerator maker in the coming years. Toyota will use Nvidia’s Drive AGX platform with the Orin combination processor and DriveOS operating system. In addition, German automotive supplier Continental will also deepen its cooperation with Nvidia in this field.

Nvidia already introduced Orin, a next-generation processor for autonomous vehicles with high computing power, in 2019. According to the manufacturer, this combination processor (system-on-chip/SoC), along with the GPU, should also be sufficient for autonomous driving at Level 5, i.e. fully self-driving. It also includes Nvidia’s own operating system for autonomous vehicles, DriveOS, which the manufacturer says is designed for safety.
Toyota is already working with Nvidia on cloud computing and will expand this in the future. The Japanese manufacturer’s research institute uses According to TechCrunch Since 2019, Nvidia has been using cloud AI to develop, train, and validate autonomous driving technologies. In the future, Nvidia technology will also be integrated into vehicles.
Nvidia technology is not only in Toyota
“Toyota is really a great example of our cloud-to-car strategy,” Ali Kani, vice president of automotive at Nvidia, said during a press conference on Monday. “We have already worked with Toyota in the cloud and are excited to now expand that partnership and work with them in the car.”

But Toyota isn’t the only manufacturer relying on Nvidia for autonomous driving. The manufacturer himself refers On partnerships with Mercedes-Benz, Lucid, Rivian and Volvo as well as Chinese brands BYD, Nio and Xiaomi regarding driving assistance systems and future self-driving automobiles.
Autonomous trucks with Continental and Nvidia
At CES, Nvidia also announced an in-depth collaboration with Continental. In early 2018, Continental and Nvidia combined their technology with artificial intelligence for autonomous driving. A platform for highly automated driving should be developed by 2021. This has not yet materialized, but there is now a new multi-year strategic partnership between these two companies.
Because it is now being said that Nvidia and Continental, in collaboration with Aurora Innovation, an American start-up developing technology for self-driving vehicles, want to bring trucks that can drive autonomously on a large scale. For this purpose, Nvidia’s DriveOS is integrated into the “Aurora Driver”. Continental plans to be able to produce this Level 4 autonomous driving system in series from 2027.
