TB5 up to 4 TBytes
The rugged SSD Pro5 is offered with 2 or 4 TB. According to the manufacturer, it should be able to read at a maximum of 6.7 GB/s or write at 5.3 GB/s. The values apply to a 50 GB pseudo-SLC cache that describes only one bit per cell. Extremely unusual: According to LaCie, the read rate also decreases when the cache becomes full. The manufacturer then states 5 GB/sec reading and 1.8 GB/sec writing.
The SSD is housed in an IP68-certified shell that protects against dust and water and is “ideal for real-time 6K and 8K video editing,” explains LaCie.
LaCie has not announced Euro prices yet. SSDs cost $400 (2 TB) and $600 (4 TB) plus tax in North America. There is backward compatibility for Thunderbolt 4 and USB with 10, 20 and 40 Gbit/s. The connected device must have an output of at least 15 watts, which can also be an iPad Pro. There is no external power supply. The packaging includes one TB5 cable (nominal 80 Gbit/s).

With the Creator Phone SSD, SanDisk offers a compact storage device that iPhone filmmakers will especially love. It is attached to the back of the iPhone using MagSafe; A compact cable with USB-C is included. This model is for owners of iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. You can save ProRes recordings to these using an SSD without filling up the internal memory. It works in direct operation with 4K60 or 4K120 depending on the model.
The Creator Phone SSD has a theoretical maximum throughput of 950 MB/s writing and 1000 MB/s reading, which is fast enough for ProRes. SanDisk sells MagSafe SSDs with 1TB and 2TB, prices are $110 and $170 plus tax, respectively. The housing is made of silicone and comes with IP65 protection against water and dust splashes. Sandisk also talks about “drop protection up to three meters.”
