Software maker Skylum has introduced new functions for its AI image editor Luminar Neo. The program’s tools use artificial intelligence to optimize color or replace the sky. Their names usually speak for themselves: they are called Denoising AI, Upscaling AI, Background Removal AI, SuperSharp AI or Magic Light AI.
Skylum also integrates the generative AI Stable Diffusion for retouching and expanding image screens. The manufacturer promises improved performance as well as more detailed and realistic images for the related generative tools GenErase, GenSwap and GenExpand.
In the Fall Update, Skylum is focusing on the previously somewhat underdeveloped photo library. It also makes it easier to choose and customize colors.
smart Search
In the future, photos will be searchable for content, as Google and Apple have done with their photo apps and Adobe has done with Lightroom. The software analyzes image content using machine learning methods. Objects such as trees, cars, beaches, and churches can be found in your own photo library using keyword searches.
Luminar Neo also offers new filter options. It allows users to filter their images based on camera model, focal length, ISO, shutter speed and aperture, and specify a star rating. In the future, you can quickly switch between images using a film strip.

Color Shifting
The colour scheme of a reference image can be transferred to your own photos in the future. Whether this happens slightly or at all can be determined using a slider. This means you can adapt multiple photos to create an image gallery or adopt the styles of any one photo.

Hiding the color
The selected colors can be used as the basis for masks, which are used to specifically and selectively edit image areas. The color range can be adjusted using the slider.

Prices and availability
The update is scheduled to appear in October for Windows and macOS. Subscribers get it at no additional cost. Perpetual license buyers can purchase a “2024/25 Upgrade Pass” for fall and subsequent spring upgrades. It also provides access to generative AI tools until January 1, 2026. Luminar Neo is currently available at promotional prices in the double-digit range. The software regularly costs 417 euros as a single license and 317 euros as an annual subscription.
