It’s probably happened to every messenger user: you type a message, then a new one comes in, you switch to another chat and forget the original draft (-) out of sight, out of mind. Drafts may go unnoticed until you reopen the abandoned chat hours or days later, perhaps wondering if the chat partner you supposedly wrote to has still responded. Why has it not been given?

The developers now want to counter such glitches with a small but useful change in the user interface. Messages that are not sent are permanently saved as drafts and the corresponding chat ends up at the top of the list. The app also colors the word “Draft” in green. This way you can keep unsent messages on your screen.

Already reported in July macworld More about it and referenced WhatsApp Web on Mac and the iOS version of WhatsApp.

WhatsApp is now introducing this function on Android and iOS – which is also the background of the current post. But there is still scope for improvement. For example, drafts remain on the device on which they were started and do not appear on other WhatsApp instances. This was revealed in a brief test with iOS and WhatsApp Web app on Mac.
If WhatsApp drafts on your smartphone sound familiar, you are right: unsent messages have also previously been kept in the chat’s input field for a certain period of time. However, the app did not put this chat at the top of the list or preview the draft. Signal Messenger brings designs like this into focus. It is missing from Apple’s iMessage.
