More Pro than standard model: Apple changes orders for the iPhone 16

0

Apple has clearly differentiated the standard and Pro models of its iPhone for several years. With the iPhone 15, for example, the standard and Plus models have last year’s SoC, while only the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max have the latest chip (the A17 Pro). According to rumors, this will actually change in 2024 – also thanks to Apple intelligence: Both the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro Max will receive the new A18, although in standard and Pro versions. Nevertheless, Apple believes that the Pro models will remain the most important new smartphones this year. The group is now reported to have communicated this to its suppliers.

As South Korean electronics magazine The Elec reports, Apple will do so this year Total of 90.1 million new iPhones Apple’s suppliers admit this. Accordingly, only 27 percent of the standard models (about 24.5 million units) have been made in total, plus 6 percent of the Plus models (5.8 million). On the other hand, the Pro and Pro Max account for 59.8 million devices, representing 67 percent of the total.

Here, the Pro Max is said to be the most frequently manufactured iPhone 16 with 33.2 million units and a 37 percent share, followed by the iPhone 16 Pro with 26.6 million units and a 30 percent share. Whisper figures from last year say Apple only had 60 percent of its Pro models for the iPhone 15 – so the company unsurprisingly believes sales will shift towards even more expensive models.

As mentioned, all iPhone 16 models will be compatible with Apple intelligence – including more RAM for standard devices. The action button should now end up on the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus as well. However, the cameras and overall speed of the Pro models remain better. For example, the ultra-wide-angle camera will be equipped with 48 megapixels for the first time, a new “capture” button will be added for photography and video, and a new 5x zoom will be added for the iPhone 16 Pro.

There is also a slightly different form factor with a slightly larger screen, which will only be available on the Pro model. Apple plans to manufacture up to 70 percent of the iPhone 16 series this year. The group has hired well-known suppliers mainly for components, writes The Elec.
