With the Vario-Elmarit-SL 1:2.8/70-200 ASPH, Leica completes its Trinity series of L-mount lenses, which also includes zoom lenses from 14 to 24 and 24 to 70 millimeters. They can therefore also be used on the corresponding cameras from Panasonic and Sigma. All of them offer a light intensity of f/2.8 and together should cover most photographic areas of application.

With this new release from Leica, consumers now have the choice between several versions of the L-mount telephoto zoom, which is standard equipment for every wedding and event photographer.

The classic telephoto zoom has 20 lenses in 15 groups, three of which have aspherical surfaces. Its purpose is to ensure detailed shots right in the corners of the image. When zoomed, the tube does not extend and therefore remains compact. It weighs quite a bit at 1540 grams. It comes close to Panasonic’s 70-200 millimeter f/2.8 model at 30 grams, but is heavier than Sigma’s L-mount option at around 230 grams.
Double the radius
In addition to the new lens, the Extender L 2.0x is also coming to the market. It extends the focal length of the Vario-Elmarit-SL 1:2.8/70-200 ASPH from 140 to 400 millimeters.
