Sonos is apparently considering temporarily reintroducing its old app, US technology magazine The Verge reports. The so-called “S2” app was removed from the store when the new app version was launched in May. However, the new app has been so poorly received by customers that Sonos may reintroduce the old version as an alternative.

From Report from The Verge It is unclear how advanced plans are or were for a possible revival of the app. The Verge simply writes that there were discussions about this potential move at the management level. So far, Sonos has not publicly announced any plans to reintroduce the old application for Android and iOS. The Verge further reports that Sonos laid off 100 employees on Wednesday.
The new Sonos app was released on May 7 with several missing features. Sleep timers and local music discovery are missing from the app, and alarm clocks were also not working at launch. In mid-May, a team of Sonos developers responded to community feedback for the first time.
“No app ever dies”
“An app is never finished,” Sonos product manager Tucker Severson said in a forum Q&A in response to a post from the community. “We decided now was the right time to bring you the new app. This is the beginning and we’ll continue to develop it further in the future.”
In fact, Sonos has continued to develop the new app since its launch and even added missing functions to it. This was also emphasized by Sonos boss Patrick Spence, who personally apologized for the failed launch in July. “We know that many of you have had significant problems with our new app,” Spence wrote. “There is not a single employee at Sonos who wouldn’t feel bad about disappointing you.”
At the time, Spence advised against manually switching to the older version of the app. While the new app is being improved, Sonos does not recommend downgrading to the older version. “Reverting to the previous version of the Sonos app will likely cause problems,” Severson writes.
