iPod resurrected with Apple Watch: TinyPod is here

0

An interesting retro project is underway in the United States: the so-called TinyPod aims to transform the Apple Watch into a kind of mini-iPod using a special housing. The computer watch is pushed into a case without a bracelet, which in turn should be able to redirect the Apple Watch’s Digital Crown mechanically to the scroll wheel placed in front. Now the company behind the TinyPod has started to publish more details about the different models and accept the first orders. However, it will not be delivered until autumn.

According to the website and an email to those interested, this will be the TinyPod in two variantseach of which will be available in three sizes. The standard TinyPod costs $89.99 plus shipping and import sales tax and comes with a scroll wheel. The case is made of plastic and also has matching buttons for Apple Watch controls.

It also has speaker and microphone cutouts, and the charging area of the computer watch is open at the back so you can continue to charge the device via MagSafe. TinyPod offers a total of three versions that are based on different Apple Watch sizes: 41/40mm, 45/44mm and 49mm for the Apple Watch Ultra 1 and 2. The TinyPod Lite, available this summer for $39.99. Plus shipping and import sales tax, is again the Apple Watch case, which is apparently made of flexible material. Here the watch buttons are also shown as buttons on one side, but on the other side they are simply directed out of the housing. A scroll wheel is missing.

Creator of the TinyPod and boss of a small New York company Former Design Engineer Manager of Messenger Snapis particularly proud of the scroll wheel. “Yes, it really scrolls. Through carefully machined components inside, the TinyPod’s wheel is in direct contact with the top of the Apple Watch.” This means you can naturally scroll throughout the operating system, write the TinyPod makers.

The idea behind the TinyPod is to turn the Apple Watch into a completely new device that, with its small screen and full set of apps, including communications, can be used as a minimalist smartphone replacement that fits in your pocket. Of course, you can still wear the Apple Watch on your wrist as normal, but the idea sounds tempting. It is still unclear when it will be possible to test the TinyPod.
