Recently it has officially become possible to test iOS 18 as a private user. However, the public beta does not include all the functions that Apple announced at WWDC 2024. Some will be submitted before the iOS 18 launch, which is expected in September. Apple has already marked others as “coming later (this year)”. These include some exciting innovations. Here’s an overview of where users will still have to be patient.

Apple Intelligence and Innovation in Apple Mail
Arguably the most important new feature in iOS 18, the suite of generative AI called Apple Intelligence, will only be available as a beta in the autumn and only in the US English language version. For the European Union region, Apple has also threatened to postpone the launch due to uncertainties regarding the Digital Market Act – although European language versions, including British English, will not be available until next year.
The slow rollout of Apple intelligence also indirectly affects innovations in Apple Mail. In the future, messages will be automatically sorted using AI, for example in Mailbox for Shopping or Social Media. In addition, content should be able to be summarized or built into certain styles using AI – but this may work in US English as early as September.
Smarter Siri
The revamped Siri risks falling completely behind. Apple has not yet revealed what exactly Siri will be able to do from autumn. But there are serious rumours that nothing will happen until spring. Apple has already admitted that the voice assistant will not initially be able to interact with apps or read screens via AI.
A new addition to macOS 15 aka Sequoia will be iPhone mirroring with which you can fully control your iOS device remotely from a Mac. The feature is already in beta testing, but convenient functions like transferring files using drag and drop are initially missing. This makes interaction more difficult. However, iPhone mirroring is one of the features that Apple is holding back due to DMA regulation.
