It is already known that the new iPhone 16 models, which will be released on September 20, will still be distributed without Apple Intelligence – even in the USA, Apple’s home market. It will not be until October that the company will add iOS 18.1, which, among other things, offers so-called writing tools. However, not all features are included. Instead, you will have to wait for iOS 18.2, Apple has now confirmed – and it is not expected before the end of the year, probably in December. It is now clear what functions these are.

Image generators are still missing
The image generators announced by Apple can only be expected in iOS 18.2. These are the so-called Image Playground and Zenmoji functions. “Picture Playground” is Apple’s actual image generator, which exists as its own app as well as integrated into apps. The manufacturer describes the feature as, “Create fun, original images in seconds with Image Playground directly in your apps. Create a completely new image based on descriptions, suggested concepts, and even a person from your photo library.” However, photorealistic graphics are not included to avoid deepfakes.
Apple’s second image generator Genmoji creates your own emoji at will. Anyone who wants a clown riding a unicorn can now get it. Here, too, you can use images from the photo library as a model. Optimized English, ChatGPT integration
The adapted English versions of Apple Intelligence will only appear with iOS 18.2. Apple officially calls the date “December” and wants to cover Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Canada. Other languages will probably not be added before next year; Apple has not yet commented on German. However, French, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese have been announced for 2025.
The ChatGPT integration, which should (if desired) become part of Siri, will probably only come with iOS 18.2. This is also announced “by the end of the year”, which will probably be December. As far as Siri improvements are concerned, users will also have to be patient: Although iOS 18.1 already includes the first optimizations including a new look, important features such as reading the screen or more app context will not arrive until 2025 – here again, no one officially knows what will happen to Germany.
