With a pen and notepad – this should be more than one thing of the past between the Hesian police. On the service cell phone of police officers, there are now 18 specially developed police apps with which traffic accidents or criminal complaints can be purely recruited digitally. The German press agency said that further applications are ready, as head of “Innovation Hub 110”, Bodo Coach, German Press Agency said.

“Hub” in WestHafen in Frankfurt Hesian is a police software company. “Thanks to our mobile strategy, we are close to the citizens,” the coach says. The objective is to offer more service. Around 22,500 Hessian police personnel were equipped with individually assigned smartphones.

Among other things, the app can be used to scan the app to include a traffic accident, the location is automatically inserted by geolocalization. Contact details between the parties involved in the accident can be contacted digitally through the QR code. “We work very intensively on such characteristics so that it is early for citizens on the road,” coaches say.

It is also about the efficient police work: in the past, data and information were written by hand with pen and blocks and transferred to the system in the office. Apps accelerated the work and reduced the sources of error.

“This is an app ecosystem which means the app is compatible with each other,” coaches. To prevent misuse, biometric approval should be given in case of data query.

The development of further apps is going on. “It aims to map the entire police work of colleagues on the road,” says Koch, the Hesian Police Headquarters and Vice President of the Chief Digital Officer (CDO).

There is also help in translating for civil servants through the app. “After the onset of the aggression of the Russian war on Ukraine, we developed it very quickly and applied the Ukrainian language, which to be able to communicate more easily with the refugees as one of the first.”

A significant new development supports ensuring objects, therefore -is collected. Therefore, no more paper form will have to be filled if, for example, a cell phone is ensured by a suspect.

The new apps are first tested in model areas which are available in all seven areas of the region in Hessse. “From there we get response from police practice, so we know which technological innovations are useful for colleagues – and which cannot be,” coaches say.

The “workplace of the future” is established in model areas. Police officers are also equipped with tablets, which they can connect to a monitor in the area to continue working directly with apps.
