“Balatro” is one of the biggest indie hits of recent years. The roguelike card game from solo developer LocalThunk is coming soon to mobile devices: it will be released on September 26 “Balatro” for iOS. Also via Play Store and Apple Arcade for Android – It is not included in Google Play Pass.

Many people online are now concerned about their productivity. Because “Baltro” is considered an addictive time waster whose simple nature is deceptive. The objective is to get the highest possible high score with poker hands to surpass an increasing target value each round. The various jokers you unlock during the game can be arranged in crazy combinations that can enable high scores of billions of points during the game.

The fact that this entertaining game theory will soon become a mobile time-waster is perhaps not entirely out of place in the announcement trailer for the mobile version, putting the global economy in jeopardy. On Steam, 97 percent of the more than 40,000 players gave their thumbs up. Many of them have played for more than a hundred hours.

“Balatro” was released on February 20 for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, as well as Nintendo Switch, where the game usually costs 14 euros. The mobile version is slightly cheaper at 10 euros, but there appears to be no difference in content.

Regardless of whether you already have a version, you have to pay the price. The mobile version of “Balatro” is a standalone game. This also means that theoretically you have to unlock the jokers and challenges again. If you want, you can unlock everything at once with one click – practical for “Balatro” veterans who have already unlocked everything and don’t want to start over.

Developer LocalThunk is considering implementing a cross-save function for future versions. This would allow you to continue playing the game from the mobile version on your PC later. However, this is not yet possible in the current version.

While the Switch version of “Balatro” is approved for ages 12 and up, the Google Play Store shows the age limit as 6 and up. “Balatro” is not stored in the USK test database. Heise asked for a statement from the USK online.
