Samsung first announced the Galaxy Ring in January, then demonstrated it behind glass in February and now it’s going on sale. As part of the presentation of the new foldable Galaxy smartphones, we were at least able to try it out.
One thing in advance: we cannot yet assess the functions of the Galaxy Ring. At the presentation, Samsung only allowed an external view and fitting, we were also allowed to take a look at the charger. Features of the Galaxy Ring include heart rate, exercise and sleep monitoring. A compatible Galaxy smartphone can be controlled remotely using finger gestures to turn on the camera or turn off the alarm clock.
For the Galaxy Ring, Samsung uses a mix of titanium on the outside and plastic on the inside. The seven millimetre wide ring is concavely curved outwards. Silver, black and gold are available as colours. In gold the surface is glossy, in silver and black the ring is matte. The ring is as light as a feather, weighing only three grams even in the largest of the nine different sizes, even so, the ring feels a little heavy on the finger, it is 2.6 millimetres thick. Samsung recommends that you always hold it with the small notch facing downwards, so the sensors will work best.
Double your walking time with Galaxy Watch
The battery should last six to seven days on a single charge. It then needs to go to a transportable charging station made of transparent, white plastic. An LED display provides information about the charge level. The charging station is charged via USB-C or wirelessly. According to Samsung, if you wear a matching Galaxy Watch with the ring, you can extend battery life by up to 30 percent because the Samsung Health app controls in the background which sensor from which gadget provides better data and turns off the others.

Samsung Galaxy Ring
The Galaxy Ring is designed to sit on your finger 24/7. It doesn’t mind swimming, is protected according to IP68 and is waterproof to a depth of 100 meters. Samsung charges a price of 449 euros for the Galaxy Ring. After purchase, the manufacturer first sends a set of nine dummies in different ring sizes, only after trying them on you specify the desired size and receive the real ring. For example, Samsung does not offer a subscription like the Oura Ring.
