Bethesda has released a bundle of the classic id shooters “Doom” and “Doom 2,” which come with improvements and some new features compared to the original versions. Anyone who already owns one of the two games on PC or console can upgrade to the new package for free.

Basically, these are the well-known versions of “Doom” and “Doom 2”, which have only been slightly updated technically. These innovations include, among other things, the possibility of playing deathmatch games in online multiplayer mode across platform boundaries (crossplay). You can also play co-op mode with up to four people in split screen – up to eight people can even play at the same time on Xbox.
4K at 120 fps
Bethesda also promises improved performance so that “DOOM” games on Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC can run at up to 120 FPS even in 4K resolution. Official modding support via an in-game browser is also new. Modders can provide their own already developed mods so users don’t have to download and install them from external sources.
Anyone who buys the “DOOM” bundle for 10 euros or gets the free upgrade can play the “Sigil” chapter developed by John Romero, as well as the completely new episode “Legacy of Rust”, which was developed by some Bethesda employees.
The “DOOM” bundle includes additional episodes from well-known developers.

The new version is already playable
The “Doom” bundle has apparently already replaced previous “Doom” versions in the Xbox, Playstation, Epic, Microsoft, Steam and GOG stores. Anyone who has one of the two “Doom” games in their library should now be able to access the new version.
At least on PC you can still play an older version of “Doom” or “Doom 2.” Bethesda has published instructions for different platforms in the FAQ.id Software is currently working on a new installment called “Dark Ages”, which is due to be released next year.
