JFrog, the provider of the software supply chain platform of the same name, has completed the acquisition of Qwak AI. The company Qwak, founded about four years ago, specializes in supporting data scientists in building machine learning models to enable flexibly scalable and secure deployment of ML applications.

The step from MLOps to MLSecOps
With the integration of Qwak into its own DevSecOps platform, which was announced at the beginning of the year, JFrog aims to reduce the gap between MLOps and DevSecOps. By combining Qwak’s ML platform with various JFrogs tools, the entire process from prototype development to productive operation of ML models should be accelerated and fully secured, JFrog CTO Yoav Landman explained as part of the takeover announcement. Companies and their IT organizations benefit from improved collaboration between data scientists, developers, and security teams when introducing complex ML models and GenAI applications.
According to Yuval Fernbach, CTO and co-founder of Quake, JFrog and Quake complement each other in many ways. The integration creates a common platform for MLOps and DevSecOps, on which integrated pipelines for software development and ML model management can be based. In addition, JFrog’s wide range of security tools helps to detect vulnerabilities and use risk mitigation for ML models as well as all other software components. This opens the next step from MLOps to MLSecOps and includes, among other things, security aspects such as analyzing dependencies in real time with JFrog Xray, automatically blocking non-compliant components, and enforcing compliance policies (curating models).

Ready for further cooperation regarding MLOps
With the completed acquisition of Qwak, JFrog continues its “model as a package” strategy. Like the technology, Qwak employees will also be integrated into JFrog as part of the MLOps-focused team. Although both parties have not disclosed more details about the acquisition, JFrog leadership has assured that the company is ready for further integration with MLOps technologies. The cooperation with AWS SageMaker and Databricks (MLflow), which was also announced this year, will continue with unchanged commitment.
