CD Projekt shows ‘The Witcher 4’ in first trailer

0

As part of The Game Awards, Polish studio CD Projekt unveiled the first trailer for the next action role-playing game in the “Witcher” universe. At the same time, the developers confirm the title: the game is called simply “The Witcher 4” or, in its spelling with Roman 4, “The Witcher IV”.

The central role is played by Cirilla Fiona Ellen Rhiannon aka Ciri, whom “Witcher” fans know since the third part of the latest game series. She follows in the footsteps of wizard Geralt of Rivia – shown fighting against a monster in the CD Projekt trailer. Geralt should have a small supporting role and should appear throughout the game. And how could it be different for the new “Witcher” game, with the trailer starting in a bathtub.

The Witcher IV – Cinematic Reveal Trailer | game awards 2024

This is a cinematic trailer: the studio presented it using the built-in Unreal Engine 5, but it was scripted, not in real time. So the trailer doesn’t make much sense, especially when it comes to graphics – the final games often looked quite different than the first trailer.

In the meantime, there are still some ads out there for Nvidia: CD Projekt emphasizes that a graphics card that has not yet been introduced has presented a trailer. The first GeForce RTX 5000 are expected to appear in early 2025. Presumably a GeForce RTX 5090 was used here.

CD Projekt is currently remaining tight-lipped about the release date of “The Witcher 4.” The title only transitioned to “complete production” status in November 2024, so a timely release is impossible. From 2026 to present would be a sensible tip. The studio is planning a complete second “Witcher” trilogy in the long term.
