After Beats bid goodbye to the loudspeaker market two years ago and focused primarily on headphones, there’s now a new Bluetooth box back. It’s simply called the Beats Pill and aims to carry forward the success of its iconic predecessor from 2015.

Optimized sound, USB-C
The new Beats Pill also has a pill-shaped housing and, according to Beats, it is ten percent lighter than the Beats Pill+. There is a non-slip silicone surface on the back and a carrying strap can be attached while on the go. According to the IP67 classification, the housing should be water and dust resistant. The speaker and opening are tilted upward by 20 degrees so that they radiate slightly upward. Inside is a tweeter and a woofer. Beats claims that the sound has been improved compared to the previous Pill+ model. The company promises “powerful, room-filling sound, punchy bass, and optimized sound across the entire audio spectrum.”
According to the manufacturer, the Beats Pill supports Bluetooth 5.3 and should enable quick pairing with iPhones and Android smartphones. Two Beats Pills can be paired to form a stereo pair. Such a stereo mode is also part of the standard repertoire for speakers from other manufacturers. The Beats Pill can also be found using iCloud (“Find My Device”) and Google (“Find My Device”) device searches. Using the built-in microphone, users can make calls from paired smartphones or control voice assistants. Background noise should be reduced when making calls using machine learning.

Battery life should be up to 24 hours; the box is charged via USB-C. A quick charge function is expected to fill the battery within ten minutes for two hours of playback. Smartphones can also be charged via the Beats Pill’s USB port. By the way, the box can also play lossless music from a computer or smartphone via USB via cable (lossless audio).
Prices and availability
The new Beats Pill is available in three colors: matte black, champagne gold and signal red. The German list price is 170 euros. The Beats Pill will begin shipping in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia on June 27. It can be ordered in Germany and other countries from August 6, with deliveries scheduled to begin two days later.
Beats last introduced a Bluetooth speaker called the Pill+ in 2015, which was sold for several years. In 2022, the group closed its loudspeaker division. In the meantime, you can still buy the Pill+ in a special edition – but only from the Stüssy fashion label. Apple does not yet have its own Bluetooth speaker in its range. The HomePods get their power from the power supply and music is supplied via WiFi.
