Apple’s strong commitment to the subcontinent seems to be paying off: according to Indian government officials, no company has grown so fast in the last 50 years. The sale will take place in fiscal year 2024 rises to $23.5 billionThat’s after $13.9 billion last year, it said. Apple has now grown its Indian business, including manufacturers, twenty-fold, writes the Economic Times.

Apple will also start producing its top smartphone models in India this year. Apple’s most important iPhone manufacturer will be ready this year, reports financial news agency Bloomberg iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max at a large factory in Tamil Nadu in southern India Final assembly. It was initially unclear which countries the equipment would be exported to beyond the local market.

At the moment, China is still the most important manufacturing location, and Foxconn is also a major producer there. However, Apple has been trying to reduce its reliance on the People’s Republic for years. As recently as the spring it said that one in seven iPhones would reportedly be “assembled in India”. However, there was no talk of the high-end Pro models at the time. The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are now expected to be manufactured in Tamil Nadu “within a few weeks” of going on sale in September. Thousands of workers are currently being trained to do so. It added that the devices should also be manufactured in India “as close as possible” to the iPhone 16’s global launch. According to Bloomberg, this would be a significant milestone for Apple, given that Indian production only really began in 2021.

In India, as in China years ago, Apple is pursuing a dual strategy. The group initially wants to turn the world’s most populous country into a key manufacturing location – the second most important after the People’s Republic – but also wants to win a sales market. Up to 14 percent of all iPhones are now said to be manufactured in India, and export volumes reached $15 billion last year. There is still room for market share, however; it currently stands at around 6 percent. The iPhone is becoming a status symbol in the country.

With the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, Apple will offer Indian devices from the start of sales, according to a Bloomberg report. Apart from Foxconn, Pegatron and Tata are also going to be involved in the production of the Pro variants. None of the companies commented on the report. Recently there was a controversy over possible discrimination against married women at the Foxconn factory in India.
