Adobe has announced new features for Premiere Pro and animation program After Effects. This includes new color management for video editing, which is due to appear in the autumn. Adobe has already released it as part of a beta version. A new 3D workspace for After Effects is now available.

According to Adobe, the newly developed color management in Premiere Pro processes unprocessed RAW and Log material from the camera during import. The editing program must independently transform the image content with a higher color depth so that the end devices can display it without cutting off color information outside the displayable area. This eliminates the time-consuming workflow with LUTs (look-up tables).

A new wide-gamut working color space according to the ACEScct standard extends the previous working color space HD Rec.709. It is still available for older projects.

In the revised property panel, beginners can find the most important functions and professionals can access the results without long mouse paths. It brings together popular effects, settings and tools.

In the future, a context-dependent palette will offer appropriate tools depending on the objects selected in the timeline – video, audio, graphics or text.

According to the manufacturer, hardware acceleration allows videos to be viewed faster than before. Encoded with AVC, HEVC and ProRes, Premiere Pro should be able to export three times faster than before. There are two dark and one light display modes for the Surface.

In the 3D workspace of Adobe After Effects, 3D elements can now be seamlessly integrated into photos and videos. Compared to video recordings, 3D content initially appears unnaturally sharp and digital.

After Effects simulates shadows cast by 3D models imported into video content. According to the manufacturer, the software takes into account not only gray gradients, but also colors. The program also uses depth maps from the video content, if available.

According to Adobe, motion designers will now be able to import animations embedded in 3D models. For example, there can be dynamic skeletons for characters in GLB or glTF format. The animation program also works more closely with the separately available Substance suite. Substance 3D Painter can send 3D footage directly to After Effects.

Adobe also offers over 30 new presets for animations and infographics. The Windows version should work faster than before.
