Always been rumored, now it’s actually becoming reality: Rockstar Games has announced a PC version of “Red Dead Redemption.” The cult cowboy game about the protagonist John Marston will come to computers on October 29, 2024 via Steam and the Epic Games Store with the DLC “Undead Nightmare”.

The PC version was developed in collaboration with British studio Double Eleven and features some minor improvements over the original game. These include 4K resolution, ultrawide support (21:9 and 32:9), HDR10, and mouse controls. Rockstar specifies a maximum frame rate of 144 Hz.

There are also some technical improvements, notably support for upscaling and frame generation via DLSS 3.7 and FSR 3.0. In addition, you should be able to expand your vision a bit, Rockstar promises in announcementThe PC version’s shadows can also be made more beautiful than the console version.

Unlike the unsuccessful remaster series “GTA The Trilogy”, Rockstar is largely faithful to the original: the graphics and art style have not been touched, and Rockstar is not promising any changes to the gameplay. Overall, the PC version of “Red Dead Redemption” should run like a slightly higher resolution version of the console version.

The original version of “Red Dead Redemption” is considered one of the best open-world games of all time. It was released in 2014 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. While the successor “Red Dead Redemption 2” also came to PC a year after its release, Part 1 has not yet been ported. Many fans had already given up hope of a native PC version.

Of course, Rockstar is still late with the port: 14 years after its release, most fans will have either played Part 1 on console or watched it on YouTube. There was already a way to play “Red Dead Redemption” without hopping on a PC: Several cloud gaming services make it possible to stream the console version to a computer.

Hopefully Rockstar fans on PC won’t have to be as patient for the upcoming “GTA 6.” The console version is due to arrive in autumn 2025; The PC version has not been announced yet. However, Rockstar’s recent history suggests that “GTA 6” should be ported to PC within a few months.
