As never before, more than before. In addition, this year the ratio of girls is again 39 percent. A total of 1384 schools participate. It was announced by the host of the competition this week after the first round of the competition.
Initially, 71,971 students participated17 percent more than last year. For the first time, now it is also possible to compete in teams for children and youth. In the first round, however, a team may include only two maximum two people, later four people are allowed to cooperate. 26.8 percent of the participants have decided directly for the team variants. According to the organizers, this possibility was received very well, especially in recent years.
The competition is divided into three roundsThe second will be third from 5 May to 18 May from 1 September to 17 November. The first round took place from 17 March to 30th, 2025.
Training forum and participation
Young competition is a competition to start computer science programming. It is technically and organizationally located between computer science and youth competition computer science. The origin of the competition has “small, manageable functions that are to be resolved by the algorithm,” it says. This should be done within 60 minutes. It has been programmed with graphic components, which “excludes the mistakes of despair in detail” compared to traditional programming.
This proposal will be well received by teachers. Both competition forums (jwinf.de), Practices are available, and participation in competition will be rapidly integrated into computer science lessons. This is especially the case in secondary level I.
However, a barrier in everyday school life can be that the competition in its orientation is based on years not on the school years but on the calendar years. Constant support within an IT class is possible only by one teacher, although computer science is still in the timetable in the new school year and the class and teacher were again assigned to each other.
Competition platforms can be used as a low -threshold learning platform
According to a teacher, the work on the competitive platform “promotes practical and algorithm thinking. Many of my students have found fun programming for the first time through competition”. According to a student, the tasks of the competition forum contributed to the fact that she considers known concepts better and was also able to learn new people. The figures for the use of the platform before the competition increased rapidly. It is said that 200,000 accounts were registered in early April.
Youth competition is part of Computer Science Nationwide Computer Science Competitions (BWINF), which should generate interest in computer science and programming. The propagation of talent is also part of the concept. BWINF organizes a total of three student competitions: Computer Science Beaver, Youth Competition in Computer Science and Federal Computer Science Competition.
Promotion of girls in competitive structure
In form of Society for computer science earlier this year, BWINF broke the record in its entirety last yearIn 2024, more than 600,000 children and adolescents participated in the nationwide computer science competitions (BWINF). The ratio of girls and young women has also increased. The female-legislator of about half of the participants in Computer Science Beaver was 46.2 percent. In the youth competition in computer science, the share in 2024 was about 39.1 percent, and a new best value was also achieved in 1 round of federal competition. In 2017, in the first youth competition, about 32 percent of the participants were girls. It was about 35 percent in 2022.
BWINF Managing Director Dr. According to Wolfgang Pahal, the first effects are high or growing girls shares Girls@BWINF initiative started in 2020,
Finance of competitions
Nationwide computer science competitions are funded by the conference of ministers of education and are under the patronage of the federal president. Competitions have been supported by Society for Informatic EV, Fraunhofer Association IUK Technology, Max Planck Institute for Computer Science and Federal Education and Research.
