Some bikes without a motor weigh more: Urtopia is showing an excellent e-bike at CES in Las Vegas. The Titanium Zero weighs just 10 kg including battery and motor. Nevertheless, the mini mid-engine runs with a maximum power of 65 Nm. The catch: It’s just a prototype. However, some information may flow into the manufacturer’s upcoming e-bike.

Urtopia CEO Bo Zhang says the company has invested about $1 million in the development of the e-bike. He estimates the bike’s components are worth $50,000. The titanium frame of the racing bike comes from a 3D printer. The self-developed motor is barely visible in the bottom bracket, it is called Quark DM 1.2 and weighs 1.2 kg. The battery hidden in the frame aims to achieve points with high energy density, compact size and low weight. Eurtopia talks about 300 Wh/kg, without mentioning the total capacity of the battery or the maximum range that the prototype can achieve. The gears are an electronic 12-speed derailleur from SRAM. Although the Urtopia Titanium Zero is a pure prototype with no possibility of series production, the knowledge gained from the project will flow into the manufacturer’s future series bikes.
The manufacturer’s plans are much more concrete: Urtopia has introduced a folding bike with a carbon frame for the North American market. The Carbon Fold 1 stands on 18-inch slippers and is powered by a rear hub motor. It is unclear whether the bike will also come to Germany or not. But the manufacturer is already active in this country also. The Urtopia Carbon 1 failed tests with all kinds of smart features. We didn’t test the successor Fusion because the manufacturer sent us a test bike that was better equipped than the production model.
