Xiaomi makes almost everything related to electronics, from cars to robots – including cordless vacuum cleaners. The latest model is the G20 Max, which aims to score points with high suction power and a good price-performance ratio.
With the G20 Max, Xiaomi brings to the market a new cordless vacuum cleaner that wants to stand out primarily with its strong suction power and good price. The G20 Max is the top model of the G20 series and has some interesting features that set it apart from its predecessors. In this test report we take a closer look at the technical data, features and performance of the Xiaomi G20 Max cordless vacuum cleaner in everyday life.
Design and scope of delivery
The Xiaomi G20 Max comes with lower delivery specs than the recently tested Dream Z30 (Test Report). The combined nozzle, motorized upholstery brush, flexible hose and pet brush all fit on the wall bracket. There is also another wall mount for the vacuum cleaner, which can be used to charge it conveniently. There is no need to plug it in manually; The charging process starts immediately when you plug it in. Since both wall brackets can only be installed next to each other, the vacuum cleaner and accessories take up a lot of space.
Overall, the design is pleasantly restrained and of high quality. Xiaomi mainly uses anthracite colored, matte plastic, which is brightened with some orange shades. The matte look looks modern and overall the device makes a very stable impression. The orange pistol-like trigger on the handle remains locked so that the user does not have to continuously press the power button during operation. The bagless dust container with orange filter insert is installed vertically in front of the handle and easily opens downwards for emptying.
The color display is clearly structured and clearly visible in portrait format, with the mode selector switch installed below it. Since this area extends much farther than the handle, a second hand is always required to change modes. It cannot be reached with the thumb of the holding hand. The LED lighting on the motorized floor brush head is bright enough and makes dust and other dirt clearly visible up close.
Demonstration of cleanliness in everyday life
The G20 Max is equipped with a 0.6 liter dust container that is easy to empty. It can be removed for emptying and maintenance, making management easier. Then washable filters come into the picture. The cordless vacuum cleaner uses a 12-cone filter system that removes up to 99.9 percent of dust particles from the drawn air. This is especially helpful for allergy sufferers as it prevents dust and allergens from being released back into the air.
The suction power of the Xiaomi G20 Max is good for the price and one of its main highlights is its low volume. The device always starts in the lowest of three modes and is the quietest cordless vacuum cleaner we’ve tested so far. It switches between two stronger modes, achieving a maximum suction power of up to 180 airwatts (AW) or 25,000 Pa. Then the noise level of the G20 Max is on par with the competition. The lowest step is sufficient, especially on hard floors. Unfortunately there is no automatic mode.
The only problem with hard floors is the design of the floor brush. Unlike higher priced models, the front lip cannot be adjusted and so it often happens that larger pieces such as cat litter are pushed into the front of the brush. They subsequently enter the brush through a hole in the middle of the suction head and are reliably drawn there. The LED floor brush helps identify and remove even hard-to-see dirt. An anti-hair tangle technology ensures that hair doesn’t wrap around the brush, making cleaning easier and reducing maintenance.
Like all cordless vacuum cleaners, the Xiaomi G20 Max has a tough time spending time on carpet – in two senses. Compared to corded vacuum cleaners, cordless vacuum cleaners have less suction power and deeply deposited dirt cannot be completely removed from the carpet, even with a motor brush fitted to compensate. As for cordless vacuum cleaners, the Xiaomi model works well and the motor brush is powerful enough not to snag even on medium-pile carpets. Here we once again wished for the automatic mode. Also, the G20 Max is a bit unruly on carpet. Here it feels a little stiff and requires a little more force than more expensive models to be able to move it. But overall it is fine.
Another highlight of the G20 Max is the special pet attachment. Because the G20 Max is so quiet, even the tester’s cats allowed themselves to be combed by it – if only for short periods of time. This should work easily for the dogs. This attachment makes it possible to easily brush pets and vacuum up hair by pressing a button on the attachment. The display provides rudimentary information about battery level and suction mode while vacuuming, but it’s very easy to read. Unfortunately, content is not rotated when loading and there is no indication of loading status other than a permanently displayed lightning symbol. To do this, you first need to press the mode selection button.
runtime and loading time
The 3,000 milliamp hour battery ensures up to 60 minutes of running time in energy-saving and especially quiet Eco mode. At full power, the run time drops to about 5 minutes, which is quite short, but still okay for a cordless vacuum cleaner in this price range. The battery is fully charged in approximately 3.5 hours using the included charging station. Meanwhile, the model consumes around 33 watts, a total of just over 0.1 kilowatts. Battery is not easily replaceable.
price
The manufacturer’s RRP is just under 300 euros. At the time of testing, the Xiaomi G20 Max was still included 269 euros,
conclusion
The Xiaomi G20 Max cordless vacuum cleaner impresses with its good suction power and particularly quiet operation. It also looks high quality. The anti-hair tangle technology works well and the special pet attachment makes the vacuum particularly attractive to pet owners – as long as your roommate allows combing with it. The LED floor brush is helpful and overall the Xiaomi G20 Max offers good value for money.
But there are also small restrictions. Battery life is adequate in Eco mode, but could be better at full power. The ability to replace the battery would also be desirable to extend the life of the device. Plus, the two-part wall mount takes up a lot of space.
