With more evolution than beauty: new rumors about the iPhone 17 Air

Although the iPhone 16 is imminent, the rumor mill is already focusing on the next model in 2025: with the iPhone 17 generation, Apple plans to introduce a new model that will be sold instead of the Plus model, according to current media reports. However, there are growing reports that, at least for the time being, this will not be a new top model, but rather a bridge between the standard and Pro models.

Rumors get new fuel A Bloomberg report from the weekend. Journalist Mark Gurman, who has accurately predicted Apple’s next products in the past. In it he writes about the “iPhone 17 Air”. This should be a new attempt at the so-called “fourth model”. It was introduced by Apple in 2020, when Apple first released a quartet of iPhones, the iPhone 12 mini. After two generations the mini was replaced by the larger Plus model – reportedly because it did not meet sales expectations.

This will now give way to a thinner iPhone in 2025, with a 6.6-inch display that’s just below the size of the Pro Max model. There were already reports from the supplier industry in July that suggested such a model.

With the Air model, Apple will follow the example of the iPad Pro, which was released in May in a redesigned version with a smaller thickness. Based on the latest quarterly data, it also appears to be a crowd favorite. Previous rumors said that the iPhone’s Air model could have an aluminum housing, have a smaller dynamic island and the cameras could also be thinner.

Gurman suspects that with the slim model, which is designed to be more attractive, Apple wants to appeal to buyers who will help the manufacturer achieve more growth in its smartphone division. Apple may have plans to turn it into a top model named “Ultra” later. Gurman also writes about plans for a foldable iPhone. The foldable smartphone may come only after the foldable iPad.
