With INCron or Inotify: Linux automatically digitize paper template text

Printed texts have long been digitized with perfect optical character recognition (OCR) with adequate adequate accuracy. For example, you can digitally store artisans or service providers. This filing gives relief from the cabinet and digital data can be discovered if you need information for income tax returns – however, the German official mold looks old.

But the more the paper naps in the house, the more annoying the process becomes if the scanner software does not do the OCR conversion itself. Then you will not only have to include each page in the scanner, start the scan process on the PC and save the image as a JPG or PNG file, but also open the OCR app, to take it into the folder that includes the reed file, start the text recognition and finally save the digitized text as a PDF file.

  • Linux helps digitize important paper documents so that you can find the machine.
  • Two examples scripts show how it works without any manual work as the scanner supplies a PDF.
  • Aadhaar is the monitoring function of Linux kernel.

This discomfort can be eliminated in many ways: we have already presented an example with comprehensive document management paperless-NGX; However, the feature is not completely trivial. A very simple way is to buy a scan program with the underlying OCR functions. For example, the versatile Vuescan costs around 40 euros for Linux, McOS and Windows and OCR functions. Such programs are also advised on “General Command Line Intolerance”.
