A story of just a thousand words – flash fiction is called an ultra-short story. As if this wasn’t challenging enough for writers, the stories must also revolve around quantum physics. Based on these conditions, the Quantum Technologies Centre at the National University of Singapore, together with partners, held a competition: Quantum Shorts Flash Fiction Contest,
The first contest began in 2012, when the organizers were looking for quantum-inspired short films. Subsequent calls for short stories and short films have been issued every year, all in English. The last short story contest ends in April 2024 and the project has been discontinued.
However, if you wish, you can still read or watch the collected contributions on the website. From dice-rolling gods to blurred realities and parallel universes to entangled minds, there is a lot of creativity involved. Those interested can either click through the archive of past winners and participants in the competition or download a compact e-book with 37 selected stories. A degree in quantum physics is by no means necessary to enjoy the contributions.
