Dalmatian is the patent beast for the current release of the virtualization platform OpenStack: version 2024.2 Dalmatian. available for download. The release is not a “SLURP Release” (Skip Level Upgrade Release Process). Current Release Model OpenStack 2022 was introduced responding to criticism from large infrastructure operators: if you want to switch only once in 12 months, install only the SLURP release and skip the published versions in between.

2024.2 is therefore targeted at operators of virtualization platforms who would like to use the latest functions in their data centers. Most notable innovation: The “Next Generation Dashboard” skyline has been released from the testing phase and is marked as ready for the production environment and has some new functions. OpenStack is one of the largest open source projects with the support of many industry leaders. Other companies including Red Hat, Mirantis, Blizzard, and Nvidia are involved in the development, as well as end users such as supermarket chain Walmart. The OpenInfra Foundation, which oversees the project along with dozens of sub-projects, is growing interest in OpenStack after virtualization heavyweight VMware announced changes to its licensing model. The willingness to switch, especially to open source, is therefore high.
