Visual Studio Code: Microsoft is preparing an extension package for data scientists

Microsoft has put together an extension package for data scientists from existing extensions for its free source code editor Visual Studio Code. This eliminates the need to install four separate extensions for using Python, Jupyter, Data Wrangler, and GitHub Copilot.

New extension package “Python Data Science” is available In the Visual Studio Marketplace Ready. Anyone who installs it will immediately receive four extensions:

  • Python Extensions IntelliSense provides language support for Python, including coding assistance, debugging, formatting, and linting. By default, this extension also installs the language server Pylens and this Python Debugger To use Django. The current September update of the Python extension brings new features such as support for unit tests with the open source web framework Django in the Test Explorer.
  • Jupyter Extensions Among other things, Jupyter is used to create and edit notebooks, add and run Markdown cells, and create versions of notebooks in HTML or PDF suitable for presentation.
  • GitHub Copilot Extension Brings AI assistant for pair programming to support developers with coding. An active subscription to GitHub Copilot is required to use this extension.
  • Data Wrangler Extension Visual Studio Code has a code-centric tool for viewing, cleaning, and visualizing data. Data exploration and transformation happens within a sandbox – so the original data set is not changed unless you explicitly decide to export your changes.

All the additional information about the new Extension Pack for Python Data Scientists Introduces Microsoft in its developer blog. If you would like to provide feedback or, for example, would like further details on this package, Can announce it in GitHub repo,
