Users of the beta version VisionOS 2 has revealed that Apple’s Persona function, with which you can create your own virtual character, has been equipped with many new possibilities. The Vision Pro figures, which can be used for video chat among other things, not only look a little more realistic than before, but they can now also work with their hands. Apple has implemented several new gestures for this purpose.

quarrel in shared environment
Chinese-speaking VisionOS developer @xchester16 showed it off on X in a short video. Among other things, it shows how you can interact directly with each other in a shared environment – in which the participants are removed from the personality window. Possibilities include handshakes, fist bumps or the direct touching of hands as a “high five”. Even virtual finger touches are possible. Apple emphasizes this visually and acoustically, it should feel surprisingly real.
Shared environments, also called shared spaces, allow several people to share a virtual room. For example, you can view panoramas, watch videos together or play together. It already feels quite real – at least more real than the meta’s Horizon Worlds with their avatars. The “Uncanny Valley” Effect The individuality remains, however, and you get used to the look surprisingly quickly.
Innovations already in VisionOS 1.2
Apple has already made some Persona improvements with VisionOS 1.2, which was released on Monday. Virtual figures can now be drawn even without hands (for people with disabilities, for example), hair and makeup should be depicted more accurately, and mouths and necks should appear more realistic.
