Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump is ready for a televised contest with his Democratic rival Kamala Harris. Trump wrote on his online platform Truth Social, “I have agreed with Fox News to debate Kamala Harris on Wednesday, September 4.” Harris had already agreed to a televised debate with Trump.

Trump and President Joe Biden originally agreed on two debates, the second of which would take place on September 10. However, Biden’s disastrous performance in the first TV duel on June 27 triggered a political avalanche that ultimately resulted in the Democrat withdrawing from the presidential election campaign and paving the way for Harris. Trump further wrote, The location of the next debate has not yet been decided. Initially, the planned second debate against Biden was scheduled for ABC. However, since Biden will no longer participate and Trump is pursuing a legal dispute against the ABC network, a conflict of interest arises.
The Fox News debate will take place at a location to be determined in the state of Pennsylvania. The hosts will be Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum. Trump also announced a debate in front of an audience: “The rules will be the same as the rules of my debate with Sleepy Joe, who was treated very badly by his party – but with an audience in a packed arena!”
Earlier this week, Trump did not give a direct answer on Fox News when asked if he would be willing to have a televised debate with Harris. Trump said he would “probably” face such a duel. But there is a logic behind not doing so. However, at that time, Harris had not been nominated as a candidate by her party. On Friday, her party announced that she had secured the necessary majority of delegate votes to become her party’s presidential candidate in an online vote.
Harris had already expressed her desire to participate in the TV debate a week ago. The 59-year-old wrote on the online platform X, “I’m ready. Let’s go.” Voters deserve to see both candidates on one stage. On July 21, incumbent Joe Biden announced that he would no longer contest the US presidential election on November 5.
