Vision Pro users get more immersive movies: Apple released its most complex production yet for the “submerged” headset on Thursday evening. In 17 minutes you can follow the exploits of American submariners in World War II – in high-resolution 3D including spatial audio. The film also comes from a capable source: Edward Berger, director of “All Quiet in the West” and winner of an Oscar for Best Foreign Film, is the director.

23 ton submarine shot down
In “Submerged,” Vision Pro users follow a submarine crew as they deal with a deadly torpedo attack. It is somewhat reminiscent of “Das Boot”, but thanks to the implementation, it is presented in a much more modern and almost interactive way. This means the user can look around and feel like they are “in the middle” – but the camera work is designed in a way that doesn’t make you feel sick.
According to Tor Myhren, Apple’s marketing manager, new forms of media are possible. “Vision Pro puts you right in the middle of history – here in a tightly packed submarine, side by side with your crew. This deep sense of immersion was not possible before.” According to Apple, Berger represents “the next generation of narrative filmmaking”. The company has details on how filming actually went In a “making of” clip pack.
Free immersive for all users
Like Apple’s previous immersive content, “Submerged” is also available for free in the TV app under VisionOS. The offer should be continuously expanded. A film about NBA All-Star Weekend 2024 will drop next Friday, and in November “The Weeknd” will perform in an immersive musical experience for his new album.

Further episodes of the “Adventures” series will follow in December and spring 2025, featuring sport climbers and freedivers. There is also more music content and aerial shots as part of the “elevated” show. Until now, immersives have been created as short films – first of all because of cost, but also because the format is still very new to users. It has a higher resolution than other headsets. Apple had previously introduced, among other things, animal movies and a tightrope walk across a Norwegian fjord; Also sports video (football) and course artist in Paris.
