The strategy series “Heroes of Might & Magic” returns ten years after its most recent offshoot: under the auspices of Ubisoft, Unfrozen Studios is developing a new part with “Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era”.
Heise was able to attend the online Gamescom presentation ahead of the game’s announcement on Thursday evening. The “Olden Era” turned out to be a largely faithful new version with some changes in detail and a somewhat cartoonish graphic style.

“Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era” takes place again on the continent of Enroth. The campaign tells the origin story of some of the famous characters from the “HOMM” universe, so it takes place before the events of Part 1. Some factions will be familiar to longtime fans: Necropolis, Dungeon and Temple, among others, new factions such as the Hive have returned to the game.

In addition to the campaign, you can also play the new “Heroes of Might and Magic” in skirmish and multiplayer modes. A map editor for the community was also announced.

Artifacts have been revised and can now be arranged in sets as is typical for “Diablo.” The more set pieces a hero carries, the more bonuses the equipment gives. This is intended to make builds more flexible and interesting. In addition, kingdoms now unlock their own perks in the form of laws so that even early factions can play a more important role later in the game.
Developments in the Home Office
“Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era” is being developed by studio Unfrozen, which previously created “Iratus: Lord of the Dead”. The studio pitched the idea to Ubisoft in 2020 and was accepted in 2021. The studio, founded in 2016, has 50 employees. An exciting detail: at Unfrozen we usually work remotely. The new “HoMM” is being created entirely in the home office.
“Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era” is scheduled to be available as an Early Access game in 2025, and version 1.0 is scheduled to be released in 2026.
