Two new lenses in the Fujifilm universe

Lighter and smaller – that’s the motto of the two new lenses that Fujifilm is releasing for its X series system cameras with APS-C sensors. While telephoto lenses are aimed at meeting the needs of wildlife and landscape photographers, innovations to the standard zoom also have videographers in mind.

The new XF16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR II follows its predecessor model, being about a third heavier. The length and width of the new zoom lens have also been reduced – thinner lens elements make this possible. With a focal length range of 16 to 55 millimeters (corresponding to a 24–83 mm KB), the zoom covers the entire range between a light wide angle and a light telephoto lens.

Compared to the previous model, the Bokeh is different and visible with no annoying rings and soft transitions and the close focusing distance has also reduced significantly compared to the previous model and is now 30 centimeters.

Videographers may find it interesting that mechanical deactivation of the aperture stop allows quiet and stepless aperture control. This means that no unwanted noise disturbs the recording.

The Fujinon XF16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR II will be available in stores from December at a price of 1350 euros.

The XF500mm F5.6 R LM OIS WR is Fujifilm’s longest. Its 500 millimeters with a light intensity of f/5.6 correspond to approximately 760 millimeters in the 35mm format. If this is not enough, you can increase the optical focal length even further with a teleconverter. The advanced image stabilizer allows longer exposure times (5.5 EV stops) when taking photographs with a tripod is not possible. The design and arrangement of the built-in lenses are intended to reduce chromatic aberrations, which often occur in telephoto images.

For outdoor use, the lens is suitable for use down to -10 degrees due to the dust and splash resistant housing. Super Telephoto offers a focus preset button that maintains focus at a set distance. Series of images that should always be focused in the same place, such as an animal jumping over an obstacle, benefit from such a preset. Autofocus is driven by a fast and quiet linear motor.

The Fujinon XF 500mm F5.6 R LM OIS WR will be available in stores from November 2024 at a price of 3400 euros.
