The scope of delivery of the Pure One A50S is manageable and limited to the essentials. A bit odd: Although there is a dedicated Auto mode, the sensitive automatic system controls suction power independently in Eco mode. Using the manual mode, the user sets not only the higher suction power, but also the higher rotation speed of the motorized suction brush. However, this does not happen automatically. We missed a proper battery indicator – there is a display, after all. But it is apparently so small that there was clearly no room left for percentage or at least bar information. Instead, when the battery is low, only a small and easily overlooked power symbol appears and the LED on the removable battery flashes red. We could have wished better than this.

The Tineco Pure One A50s shows its strength on hard floors. Even in Eco mode, almost all common dirt is removed with just one suction movement. The very bright green LED helps detect even the finest dust particles. As is almost always the case with cheap vacuum cleaners, good results apply mainly when moving forward, with small particles always left behind when pulling back;

However, it is difficult to operate a vacuum cleaner on carpets. Although it moves quite well on short pile carpets, it sometimes becomes difficult to move on high pile carpets. Sometimes it helps to raise the lip of the brush head using the small slider at the top. However, what is left is always something like breakaway torque – at first it is difficult to get it moving, then the large wheels on the brush head ensure smooth movement. This makes its use more limited than necessary, at least on high-pile carpet. Thanks to the strong suction power of (according to the manufacturer) 185 air watts, the actual cleaning performance on carpets is also good – at least better than we expected from a comparatively cheaper model.

EdgeSense technology detects edges on the side of the brush head and increases suction power accordingly. This is also indicated by an LED on the right and left side of the brush head, which illuminates when the sensor detects the approach of side obstacles such as furniture or skirting boards. In practice this works fine. We really liked the simple automatic system, which, as described above, only controls the suction power, not the power of the motorized brush. The program responds directly and sensitively and we rarely wanted our performance to be any better. It can also be accessed by pressing a button if necessary.

Our test device lacked suitable accessories for cleaning upholstery, making it difficult to even remove animal hair. In fact, it should include a motorized upholstery brush. The operating volume is relatively high at up to 75 dB in Max mode, but pleasantly low at around 60 dB in Eco mode. However, due to the constant automatic control, it is usually higher and at the same level as the automatic mode.

The 2,500 mAh battery on the Tineco Pure One A50s provides about 40 minutes of runtime in Eco mode, which is a good value. In Max mode, the running time is significantly reduced to just over 10 minutes – which is still acceptable, especially since the Eco mode is enough for the automatic system.
