Since the United States presidential election on November 5, many users, as well as sports clubs, parties and other organizations, have turned their backs on the social network X and switched to competing threads or BlueSky. X owner Elon Musk supported former and now re-elected US President Donald Trump in the US election campaign. Last week, Bluesky announced that it already had 20 million accounts. Recently, about one million users have been added every day. Threads reports similar growth figures. According to its spokesperson, the app has been registering more than one million registrations per day for the last three months.
Meta opened threads a year and a half ago, only to the world outside Europe, and also to the European Union (EU) before the end of the year. The platform has been growing rapidly since launching with record numbers. Late last month, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during the third quarter 2024 earnings conference call, Threads has over 275 million monthly active usersThreads has recently introduced some new features. So after a short testing period, the social network made custom feeds available to everyone. Custom feeds allow users to follow topics and accounts in a single feed. Additionally, Threads wants to show more posts from followed users in the future. Instagram boss Adam Mosseri had announced this last week. From January, Meta’s Twitter alternative will reportedly run with advertising – and thus the short messaging service will be monetized much earlier than announced after its inauguration.
