Mozilla.ai has introduced Lumigator, a framework that aims to help you integrate large language models (LLMs) into your own projects.

In the first step, Lumigator helps developers choose the right LLM. In the medium term, it is planned to develop the framework into an open source project for “ethical and transparent AI development”, As stated in the blog post accompanying the announcement,
The pain of choosing the right model and choice
The stated goal of Lumigator is to make language model selection transparent, powerful, and efficient. The first iteration provides a framework to evaluate LLMs based on task-specific metrics and thus select appropriate models for integration into your own applications.
Mozilla.ai, a start-up founded in early 2023 and operating independently from the Mozilla Foundation and Mozilla Corp., speaks in a blog post of A Trusted Compass for AI Travel and Quotes Artificial Intelligence Index Report 2024 Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI). Among other things, the study concludes that there is still a lack of tools for evaluating models and that testing using multiple benchmarks complicates comparisons.
Lumigator aims to bridge this gap and prevent development teams from choosing models based only on current hype, often not using the LLM that best suits their specific needs.
Big plans for further development
Following the initial presentation of Lumigator as an MVP (Minimum Viable Product), several more tasks have been planned for the project to select a suitable model. A More detailed article from Mozilla.ai Identifies nine points in which the project aims to help in the integration and management of LLM.
This includes, among other things, installation and seamless integration into projects, fine-tuning, real-time monitoring for experiments, and extended comparison of models with similar data sets. The application will receive both a UI and a Software Development Kit (SDK).

Lumigator mainly helps with the evaluation of models, but will also cover other areas such as experimentation and fine-tuning in the future.

Lumigator’s closed alpha launch is scheduled for November 2024, and general availability is scheduled for January 2025. First of all, Mozilla.ai is leading Take a survey about desired features,
Anyone interested in Lumigator, You can register for the newsletterEven though the project is still listed as closed alpha, it still exists Already a public GitHub repositoryWhich provides, among other things, a Jupyter notebook with a project overview.
