From January 3 to 4, the impressive Quadrantids meteor shower will reach its peak. Under optimal conditions, up to 100 shooting stars will be visible per hour around the shower’s peak (4 p.m., give or take two hours). The Quadrantid meteor shower is one of the four most active meteor showers of the year and radiates from the northeastern part of the constellation Bootes.

Passkeys instead of passwords heise onlineThe best time to view to get the maximum experience is as early as January 3, as this is before sunset, around four in the afternoon. Moonlight also plays an important role in observations. During the rain this year, 2025, the moon is rarely a problem because its narrow crescent shape lets in less light and sets around 8:30 p.m., providing ideal conditions for the spectacle, as shooting stars are often blue. Shine in and are not particularly bright.
No technical assistance is required for the observation, but the sky should be clear and the surrounding area should be as free from light pollution as possible. However, the German Weather Service expects dense clouds and snowfall in many places in Germany. Warm clothes, blankets and hot drinks are also useful. Photographers can also capture the event well.
